When it comes to food, people love to eat all sort of weird and wonderful combinations that sound like they shouldn’t work – from pineapple on pizza (definitely works) to dipping french fries in ice cream.
But one woman has left many foodies shocked after revealing the unexpected item she likes to eat with her spaghetti bolognese.
And it’s not parmesan or garlic bread.
An NHS nurse, known only as Nurse Emma, has gone viral on TikTok after sharing a video of her grating a hard-boiled egg over her pasta dish.
Speaking in the clip, she said: “Right, so this is something that people tell me is weird, but I wanted to come on here and do this to see if anyone else does it.
“I grate egg on top of my spaghetti bolognese.
“I haven’t seen anyone else do this, so I thought I would finally get an answer and see if anyone else does it.
“Does anyone think this is strange or is this normal? Please let me know.”
More than 88,000 people have since watched the video, with thousands liking and hundreds commenting.
Many were quick to brand the whole thing “illegal”.
One person said: “I’m sure this is illegal… if it’s not it should be.”
Another wrote: “What?? No… I grate cheese on top of my spag bol.”
“I think there’s probably a reason you haven’t seen anyone else do it,” proclaimed a third. “But if it works for you, keep on grating.”
“I think I can safely say, no you’re on your own with this,” replied someone else.
However, not everyone was against the idea and a few users admitted they wanted to try it for themselves.
A different person asked Emma to share the origin story of how she started eating her bolognese this way, so in a follow-up video, the nurse explained that it was just the done thing in her family.
“Basically my dad brought me up with this, so this was normal,” she explained.
“His mum did it and it’s been passed down the generations, so until I had done this video I hadn’t realised it wasn’t normal.
“It was completely the done thing in our family. Have you tried it? And also I don’t just put the egg on my spaghetti, I also have some cheese. It’s such a good combination and I could never imagine eating spaghetti bolognese without it.”
